Ladybugs

We've been experimenting with polymer clay for the past little while... and when I say we, it it really has been a WE effort--even including the mother and teenage brothers! Every time I sit down to mold something, the two boys somehow find their way to the table and start working with me--this is the first craft that they have had any interest in, it's quite extraordinary. Sean helped me with these ladybug rings--pretty cute, especially for having the help of a teenage boy! ;)

What I Wore

This week--one of my all time favorite dresses. This fabric was a clearance find--ULTRA clearance, like 50 cents a yard! It was a steal--but, there was a reason it was so cheap--slightly wavy lines that seemed almost impossible to match up, and a fabric texture that was a pain to sew on--but I can't pass up a deal that good, so I got the fabric and made this:
The reason I love this dress so much--besides that I think it's just so beautiful of course ;) --is that it DOESN'T WRINKLE--not one bit! It's the perfect travel dress; I can wad it up into a sandwich Ziploc even and take it with me anywhere, it's ridiculously comfortable, and I can still look stylish no matter where I go. I love it.
Oh, and since this Summer has been so strange--it was actually raining! So out came my new rain jacket and matching umbrella:
Dress: Made by me! with clearance fabric, $2-3
Boots: Payless after winter clearance sale
Earrings: Rue 21 clearance, $1
Rain jacket: H&M clearance rack

Let the rain kiss you.  Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops.  Let the rain sing you a lullaby.  ~Langston Hughes

Penguins and Narwhals

I can't believe it--my little brother is 14 years old! Not only that, but suddenly he is taller than me--when did he grow up? I must have missed it... to celebrate his birthday, I decided to page homage to his two favorite animals:

PENGUINS and NARWHALS!!!
Sean has always been a HUGE fan of penguins--when he was younger I took him to see March of the Penguins on his birthday--I was amazed that such an energetic little kid could sit through an entire documentary with so much fascination!

The narwhals fascination is new this year--apparently there is a popular youtube video about narwhals that the teenagers are really big into these days. Not gonna lie, after watching it several times it does become rather entertaining--but I will warn you, it will get stuck in your head for days and days and days and days... sometimes I even hear it in my dreams, it's slightly creepy... at least my narwhals are cute! ;)
Although, I have to admit that the penguins were my favorite! :)
and of course I had to make a few simpler cupcakes for those less inclined to devour a mound of sugar and sweets--so, Swedish Fish were a definite must.

We kept them in the freezer until it was time to feast--so that they would stay in one piece for a little while at least--when we took them out a few of the mouths started to drip, so Sean took the liberty of adding some skewed Swedish Fish to the more bloodthirsty narwhals.

I just love those penguin eyes! They remind me of Sean's too-cute-to-get-in-trouble-because-I'm-the-baby-of-the-family-face.

Sean was pretty excited about his birthday cupcakes this year!

 Savoring every last bite...

A Few Sweet Tarts

Here is a simpler version to accompany my Queen of Hearts Necklace--sometimes I am all over the detailed,  crazy awesome things (okay, most of the time), but sometimes occasions call for simpler looks. So, with that in mind, here is A Few Sweet Tarts: Flower and Butterfly Bib Necklace:

Pretty Pinks and Graceful Greens

I loved these fabrics the moment I found them--vintage looking Victorian prints, yet the pink and green pastels make it reminiscent of Spring--so here it is, Pretty Pinks and Graceful Greens:

Pearls, vintage gold and pearl button, and little vintage flower beads:
and of course a lovely antique colored butterfly:

Americana Minnie!

The 4th of July is just around the corner--and this year I'm going to be in the United States! Last year I totally missed out--don't get me wrong, I LOVED being in London, but there's something to be said about the good old USA, and it is going to be so much fun celebrating it this year! So, in preparation for such things, I decided to make some Minnie Mouse accessories.

I've linked to the CSI Projects for the Red, White, and Blue challenge--check out their page to see other great patriotic projects!
