Yes, I love being an aunt--I finally have my own personal little someone to make special things for! As a kid I was never really a blanket person--I was more of a stuffed animal cuddler, so I decided to make my little niece her own little stuffed animal friend. Since my sister has always LOVED the color purple, I went with that--meet Percy, the purple hippo!
Percy was so named by my little brother, who ironically is always teasing about how much stuff we make my little niece (poor thing is becoming a bit spoiled, but what can you do); he came into the sewing room and saw this fuzzy little purple creature and suddenly fell in love--I think I may have to make him one soon--and quite fittingly named our new little friend Percy. Okay, my favorite part--don't you just love that little tail?!
And of course, since Percy was made for a little girl, he gets a big beautiful pink flowered bow! :)
I think my sister wants to keep Percy for herself--not that I blame her, he did turn out pretty cute (and oh so soft!) if I do say so myself. :)
Post Edit: Thank you to Dorene for reminding me--I had completely forgot to mention where I got the pattern!--while we were at the Sewing and Stitchery Expo, we had the opportunity to meet Carol, from Carol's Zoo, and I fell in love with the hippo. Carol's Zoo has the greatest stuffed animal patterns--some of them are only two pieces, so perfect and so easy! And they turn out so cute too. :)

How adorable is Percy! I've been taking Emma to the zoo lately, and once she is old enough to have a favorite animal, I sure hope it's a hippo so I can make her one of these. ;)

I didn't know there was a book with patterns for stuffies! My step-daughter has a collection of hyppos, I guess I know what i'll make for her birthday (even if she's 19 she'll like it!) i'm your next-post-neighbor at sew much ado :)

You could spoile me any day. Even old ladies love soft cuddly purple hippos.
At first I thought he looked velvet. Maybe since I have a velvet dress that color looking for a project. A closer look shows me he is fleece. Much cuddlier.
